Radio Khwezi's Ezabasha Team helps
raise R15 000.00
for AIDS hospice
On 21 March 2007, the team of producers and presenters of Ezabasha
which is a youth programme at Radio Khwezi, handed over a cheque of R7 000 to Philanjalo
Hospice at Tugela Ferry, Msinga. This hospice is a home for people with different
ailments, especially those living with HIV/Aids. The presentation of this cheque by the
team from Ezabasha coincided with Human Rights Day. Umzinyathi District Mayor, Mr
Mbangiseni Yengwa, was the guest of honour in this event. Philanjalo Care Centre has 16
beds at the moment. The hospice is hoping that with the help of the donation by Radio
Khwezi they will be able to add more beds. Previously, on 1
December last year, the Ezabasha Youth Team was able to raise money to give to two Aids
hospices they have identified apart from the R7000 that was given to Philanjalo Care
Centre.
Khwezi will again give an amount of more than R8 000 to another Aids hospice, Emseni Care
at Kwasizabantu Mission, in the Ilembe Region. All this money was raised when the
Department of Health in the Ilembe Region bought a slot in the Ezabasha programme, while
the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health sponsored the Zulu news bulletin and the Umzinyathi
District Municipality sponsored all the three current affairs programmes. Umzinyathi
District Mayor, Mr Yengwa, hailed patients at Philanjalo Hospice as heroes and heroins for
getting tested for their HIV status. Mr Yengwa promised to help the hospice wherever and
whenever and with whatever he could. He also praised Sipho Mkhize, Dumisani Zondi,
Phakamani Mkhwanazi, Thami Thusi and Themba Radebe of Ezabasha, for making him aware of
the plight faced by Aids sufferers in his region.
