Local Drama Awards 12 September 2004

Radio Khwezi paid tribute to its drama department this Sunday by awarding all those involved with a certificate of appreciation and a small gift. In so doing we want to recognise the talent within our local community which has been un-earthed through these local radio plays. Altogether a total of 30 actors, 4 writers and a 5 member production team received awards. Since going on air in 1995, Radio Khwezi has produced 78 radio dramas, and drama has become one of our flagship programs.

In his speech which was read out, the station manager Mr. Fano Sibisi emphasised that the kind of dedication, commitment and sacrifice that these volunteers put into the drama is invaluable to the station. He also thanked the IAJ, for being part of the foundation that strengthened the capacity of the drama department, and for the on-going training partnership we have with them.

A special award of excellence was presented to Thomas Mhlongo. "Tom" as he is affectionately known joined Khwezi straight out of school in 1995. He started as a presenter and is now our drama production manager. He's kept the drama ship afloat through many a storm especially on the technical side. When he started, production was done on reel, then to mini-disc and now he does all recording and editing on a digital computer system.
