The Zululand Municipality held large Youth Day celebrations on Sunday 9
June 2002. This municipality said it wanted to honour the call made by President Thabo
Mbeki that this month would be the month of the youth. So it organised this event with
entertainment and speeches which mainly centred around the dangers of Aids and drugs.
Present at this event were the Mayoress of Zululand, Miss Zanele Magwaza; Mntomuhle
Khawula, Mayor of Ugu District; Zenzele Phakathi of the Youth Commission (KwaZulu-Natal);
Nkethu Matima of the Youth
Commission(Gauteng); Minister of Home Affairs and the IFP President, Chief Mangosuthu
Buthelezi and the youth from Ulundi and surrounding areas like Nongoma, Vryheid and
Empangeni. Radio Khwezi was invited to attend the event and report on the activities and
speeches.
