                                             CEV Bible launch

The latest English translation of the bible was launched at a special ceremony in Durban on Thursday 8th November 2001. It is a publication of The Bible Society of South Africa and has a unique target market. The Contemporary English Version (CEV) is intended for the ear as well as for the eye. It is a bible that comes alive when the human voice re-creates printed words. This translation differs from all English bibles, past and present, in that the needs of the listener take priority over the reader.

More than 100 people - translators, consultants and reviewers - worldwide were actively involved for more than ten years, translating the contemporary English bible into everyday language.

The bible comes in three styles: a standard hard-cover edition, a special youth edition as well as leatherbound. About 180 guests attended the occasion which was presented by Rev. Gerrit Kritzinger, General Secretary of the Bible Society of South Africa. Guest speaker was the Minister of Education in KwaZulu Natal, Prof. Gabrielle Ndabandaba.
