BRIDGING THE DIGITAL DIVIDE
Phillippe Laberge, a Canadian computer
specialist, visited Radio Khwezi to train the staff as well as community volunteers on how
to put computers to better use in their daily programming.
Phillippe has a bachelors degree in
journalism and communications from Laval University in Quebec city, and went on to study
computer assisted sound design.
He was sent to South Africa by an
organisation called ALTERNATIVE who promote action in communications network for world
development.
Workshops were held every morning for
the staff and in the evenings for part-time volunteers.
Some of the topics covered were:
introduction to computers, the internet, website design, desk top publishing and sound
editing
The course received an overwhelming
response with over forty volunteers turning up for the evening sessions.
Our thanks go to Chris Armstrong and
the NCRF for facilitating this wonderful opportunity.
