BRIDGING THE DIGITAL DIVIDE

Phillippe Laberge, a Canadian computer specialist, visited Radio Khwezi to train the staff as well as community volunteers on how to put computers to better use in their daily programming.

      Phillippe Laberge

Phillippe has a bachelors degree in journalism and communications from Laval University in Quebec city, and went on to study computer assisted sound design.

He was sent to South Africa by an organisation called ALTERNATIVE who promote action in communications network for world development.

Workshops were held every morning for the staff and in the evenings for part-time volunteers.

Some of the topics covered were: introduction to computers, the internet, website design, desk top publishing and sound editing

The course received an overwhelming response with over forty volunteers turning up for the evening sessions.
